A brief history of Hillingdon

Hillingdon was an old ward and had inside it the chapelry of Uxbridge, which turned into a different common area in 1866. Hillingdon Court was occupied in 1858 by Sir Charles Mills and was his family home after he had purchased separate contiguous properties in Vine Lane. However, both structures were demolished, and the plots joined to permit the development of the new property. The manor stayed in the family’s proprietorship until Charles Mills; second Baron Hillingdon passed on in 1919. During the 19th century, a part of the land was brought and turned into a nursing home.
